5 out of 5 stars I'm Suprised after reading all these reviews. NO PROBLEMS   January 12, 2005

I have been a quicken user since Jan 1994. I upgraded from quicken 2001 deluxe to 2005 deluxe. I have over 100 accounts all types: loans, checking, savings, 401K, IRAs, brokerage, stock options, 401K match, credit cards, mortgages, budgets,... which many of these accounts are now closed and hidden. My data files contains all the data from the beginning and is always reconciled and kept current. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS!! Even my custom reports came over correctly.

I've held off getting the quicken upgrade due to these reviews (I wanted to upgrade a yr ago) but could wait no longer since some of my financial information could not be downloaded anymore using Quicken 2001.

Yes, this version doesn't support the QIF format but I stopped using this format for manual input many yrs ago. Quicken 2005 will still accept downloads for credit card data in this format for another yr yet. All my other financial institutions have gone away from this format yrs ago. The QIF issue is not a problem for me.

In the past I upgraded every 2 versions and have had some problems. This is the first time I have no issues. I wrote this review to help people understand that it can be done very easily at least from Quicken 2001 deluxe.

Good Luck

5 out of 5 stars What's all the fuss about?   January 22, 2005

Just installed Q Deluxe 2005 as an upgrade from the 2002 version. Other than adjusting to the new look, everything else has been seamless. I download transactions from Discover, National City Bank, and my 401k at Fidelity. They all work ok. I really like the return of net worth graphs with history.

I was a bit concerned about the conversion and would not have done it for the fact that Quicken is pulling the plug on 2002 version in April. As a precaution, I backed up the old version from my hard drive to a CD just in case. I had no install problems; no need to call for tech support. All is well.

5 out of 5 stars Not sure what all the fuss is about   February 4, 2005

I bought Quicken 2005 without reading all the negative reviews about this product. After reading the reviews, I was worried that I would lose all my data and would not be able to import my checking account transactions into Quicken. However, I received it today and gave it a pretty good test and have had no problems at all. In fact, my bank, Wells Fargo, offers to import the new format data automatically where the previous crummy QIF format had to be manually imported. That is nice. The interface isn't anything earth-shattering, but I can find the information I need. The software doesn't add a lot of new bells and whistles but does have a few. I like the "Renaming Rules" used for online importing of transactions. It takes the financial institution ATM and EFT transaction descriptions and converts it to something readable that you are familiar with. You custom how it works. Since I would guess most people use less than 25% of Quicken's functionality, talking about new features is a waste of time.

After all the whinning and complaining about Q2005, I thought I was getting a real dud. Instead, it functions they way I hoped and meets my expectations, as it has for the last 10 years.

5 out of 5 stars These reviews scared me, but I have had NO PROBLEMS   February 5, 2005

I have been a Quicken user since 1999 and had upgraded only once - in 2002. I did not upgrade in 2004 because of all of the negative reviews on this site, but I was recently forced to upgrade to 2005 because of Intuit's sunset provisions (they are no longer supporting the on-line features of 2002 and earlier). I was terrified of upgrading because of all of the negative reviews, but the upgrade and conversion went very smooth. All of my accounts transferred over to the new program and the new interface is still very easy to understand. I have not been bombarded with products Intuit is trying to sell, and I have not found any bugs or conversion problems. I am starting to think that the only ones who post a review here are those that had some problems (a very vocal minority). The vast majority of users must not have any problems and must remain relatively silent.

5 out of 5 stars No problems installing Quicken Deluxe 2005   March 23, 2005

I was previously using Quicken 2001, and was prompted by Intuit to upgrade to Q2005. Since I would no longer be able to pay my bills online with my current version, I had no choice but to upgrade. After I ordered the upgrade, I read many of the negative reviews on this product, and thought about canceling my order. But after reading reviews for Microsoft Money, I wasn't overly impressed either. I decided to stick with Quicken. My OS is WinXP. I think it took about 20 minutes to install, and I had no hang ups at all. My data (since 1996) transferred over just fine, and I even made the connection to my bank to download transactions. Very easy set up.

I gave it 5 stars, just because it does what I need it to do. The only thing I do with Quicken is download my transactions from my bank, pay bills on-line (through Quicken, not through the bank's site), and run a few cash flow reports. For what I need to do, it works just fine.
