Amazon.com Review Whether planning a retirement strategy or just balancing a checkbook, it can be tough to deal with financial data sensibly and securely. Quicken 2002 Home & Business helps new and upgrading users devise the best arrangements for their information and plan for the future. The program's Web-page-based tracking system (which integrates Internet Explorer thoroughly) is simple, customizable, and easy on the eyes. Installing the upgrade is practically transparent, and new users will only have to pay attention for a few minutes before taking a quick coffee break and letting the computer do the work. Data entry is painless now that nearly every major bank and investment house has online information access, though this can be moderately tricky to implement, depending on the business in question. Those who are a bit more daring can branch out from basic data maintenance and ask the onboard experts for advice on debt reduction, college payment, and many other common financial milestones. The program also includes information and guidance on starting and running a business, including helpful tax information. Links to helpful online services abound--though they're incomplete, they're a good start--and users should be able to find information on just about any topic they need. Upgraders will find the 2002 version a bit slicker and better suited to Web transactions, but little is otherwise different. Those shifting from other packages or new to personal financial management software will have a short but steep learning curve. Quicken 2002 Home & Business also lets users create customizable estimates and invoices, manage business taxes, and track accounts payable and receivable. This version also lets managers and employees track jobs, projects, and customer payments. Will Quicken make up for sloppy budgeting, bad investment advice, or the heartbreak of tax day? No, but it will help users committed to financial responsibility achieve their goals without going crazy, and that's more than enough. --Rob Lightner

Great Financial Software November 26, 2002 Puching (Brooklyn, NY United States) Quicken manages our life, and by tracking where we spend and save, we know where to go on vacation. We believe this beats Money. And any version 2000 and up is compatible with websites.
Pretty Useless Update November 16, 2001 91 out of 92 found this review helpful
I have used Quicken for years and am totally addicted. If you don't have Quicken at all, then I highly recommend this product. If you have Quicken Deluxe 2000 or 2001, though, this update is basically useless. It even has most of the same bugs. I could find very few new features. Most of the listed improvements are really just links to the Quicken website. The business features are incredibly weak. For example, you can only print an invoice with pre-set columns. There is no way to add an item description or change the format in any way. Overall, Intuit didn't put much effort into this update.
Quicken 2002 Home and Business...Well.... January 25, 2002 Robert D. Shull (Fairfield, OH) 25 out of 28 found this review helpful
If you are a currently using Quicken Deluxe and you keep track of payments then I would highly recommend you purchasing this edition over the Deluxe version. Quicken 2002 Home and Business has some nice features such as the ability to keep track of customer payments, and your payments to vendors, which is highly useful if you have a good deal of customers. The area where I use this feature is in keeping track of my Ebay auctions. With the Home and Business Edition, I am able to create customizable invoices for my customers, and record when and how much they pay me. This is worth the price. If you do keep track of these kinds of records, then I think that you will find that the Home and Business Edition will be right for you to help organize your financial matters. I do also highly recommend users of Quicken 2000 or earlier to upgrade to a 2002 version. This version is much easier to use than some prior versions have been, and setting up accounts is a breeze with Quicken 2002 Home and Business. You are also able to maintain your accounts a little easier through the "Getting Started" process, which can be repeated multiple times unlike previous versions. You will also find that creating budgets, and other planning documents will become simplistic. You will wonder why you didn't try this out earlier.
Window XP Conflict February 24, 2002 George Hutchison (Little Rock, AR) 22 out of 25 found this review helpful
I purchased a new computer with XP after a house fire and installed Quicken 2002 Home & Business after having been a faithful user since Tobias stopped making MYM. Once installed, my computer would not shut down. Bad computer, I thought, so I bought another with XP. Installed Quicken and same problem. Called local computer whiz to fix problem. No luck. Returned computer and bought another brand, now three different brands of computer with XP. Quicken still corrupted the system. I recommend avoidance of use of this product with XP as neither Quicken nor Microsoft seems to be aware of this problem and no fix has been offered. I am in the process of switching to Money. Good luck, George Hutchison, MD
Who's in control here? Quicken or You? December 2, 2002 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've been using Quicken since the late 80's and was always a big fan of Intuit's products until this version. While the program offers all the essentials that other programs like Peachtree offer it is constantly trying to up sell you to other Quicken (Intuit) products and services.A major drawback to this program is how it prints invoices and statements. If you want to send your customer a nice PDF of your statement or invoice too bad you can't. If you want to send it via e-mail it has to be processed through Quicken which strips out your logo (if you've added it) and you can only send it as an HTML or TXT version then it launches your default e-mail program. What's that you say? You use an online fax service or you fax through a fax program? Well too bad. You can't do that through this version of Quicken and I'm not sure other versions let you either. I thought well then there must be a way I can just save the invoice or statement as a file and then process it any way I want to (e.g. PDF, image file, fax document etc) but no way this program won't let you do that and they won't even address the issue in their help. I had to find out by combing the web and finding other users having the same problem. Another very annoying product feature is that they've set up defaults to try to get you to have Quicken go online and download your various bank account data from company websites from bank info to creditors. It constantly tries to get you to use Quicken to process these online services. There are a myriad of options and preferences you have to find and deselect so this can take a long time because they hide lots of preferences. It's been months already and I still cant' figure out how to get the darn alert message at the beginning to stop alerting me that Quicken's WebConnect feature is not setup to get all my data. It also defaults to send "anonymous" user information via the web back to the Quicken developers at Intuit. I say before you get sucked in check out alternatives. The only one I know of though is Peachtree because I hear the one from Bill Gates is even worse.
